Christine Burford

PACIFIC

Christine encountered the work of Bible translation in the highlands of Papua New Guinea in 1982, while sailing the South Pacific in her quest for answers to life’s bigger questions. After visiting SIL’s centre at Ukarumpa she journeyed to the Maring people in the Aipo Ronga region of the highlands. While sitting on the church’s dirt floor, among a handful of Maring language speakers, the Holy Spirit directly asked her to trust him and allow him to take over her life. Since then Christine has grown to recognise the power of God’s Word to change lives, including her own. It is her hope to see the 16,000 Maring language speakers experience this in their lives, through helping them access Scripture in their own language. The Maring translation project was started by SIL in the 1960’s and continues today through local translators, under the direction of PNG’s Bible Translation Association (BTA). Between 2017 and 2019 Christine taught grade 3 at SIL’s international school in Ukarumpa PNG. She is preparing to return to PNG in 2020 to continue working with SIL to support literacy needs identified among the Maring language group in Jiwaka Province.

Thanks for your patience...

Waiting is hard, isn't it. But imagine waiting 2000 years for Scripture in your language! Thanks for your patience. And thanks for your generous support which will help bring the long wait to an end...
