We have been working as regional centre managers in Lae, Papua New Guinea. The role of managing a regional centre takes on many different forms. Our first priority is to provide practical support for the multiple translation and literacy teams operating in our Lae region, by purchasing and forwarding supplies, assisting with finances, providing transport and accommodation, and maintaining contact by mobile or radio.

Our Lae Centre has over fifty beds in fifteen rooms and flats, offering a place for serving missionaries and others to retreat, reorganize and return to the field. Our common rooms and offices provide space for training workshops and translation team meetings. Eight PNG staff work with us to maintain the Centre and to keep it operating effectively.

As Lae is a major city, we also assist with banking, road and sea freight, and other professional services for the SIL team throughout PNG.
