Michael & Melanie Viljoen

Michael and Melanie Viljoen have been working in Cameroon, with their son Aaron, since 2003. For several years they lived among the Basnami (pseudonym) people and learned to speak their language. Melanie completed her Doctoral thesis on Basnami grammar in 2013. Previously, this was only an oral language with no writing system and no Bible. Today some Scripture portions are available, including the Gospel of Luke, and a translation team is currently drafting the remainder of the New Testament. The Viljoen family are now based in the capital, Yaounde, where Melanie serves as a linguistic consultant and Michael as a translation adviser for other minority languages of the region.
