Tumirin & Sheridan Indarto
Tumirin and Sheridan met on the island of Lombok, Indonesia whilst Tumirin was heading up a YWAM community development project with the Sasak people group and Sheridan was pursuing a passion in early childhood education. Drawn together by their shared love for God and a desire to see improved quality of life for the poorest Indonesians, they married in Australia and set upon the task of studying to prepare for future work in Indonesia. In 2013 Sheridan completed her post graduate diploma in literacy education and Tumirin has since completed Summer School, both through SIL Australia. This knowledge will be combined with previous skills to serve in Papua, Indonesia where the rates of poverty, illiteracy and completion of elementary education are very low. Tumirin will use his skills in building, water irrigation, sanitation and health education to build up and support communities. Sheridan will be involved in mother-tongue elementary education, which derives its curriculum from community knowledge and ensures early years education is carried out in the mother tongue, increasing literacy and numeracy success and reducing dropout rates.
