Archive Services Administrator
LONG TERM | AUSTRALIA
This position is responsible for the practical operations of an institutional repository that preserves and shares the works of SIL International and its Wycliffe partners. The institutional repository is central to SIL’s knowledge management and digital publishing strategies. The services administrator keeps all the elements working smoothly together. This role is flexible in terms of location and can be undertaken from here in Australia.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct assistance and support to staff members worldwide who preserve, manage, and share resources in the Archives
- Monitor the quality and consistency of catalog records and related digital files
- Coordinate with the service providers who host and support the repository and related tools
- Collaborate with other administrators in determining and implementing future development of the digital archives
Qualifications:
- Entry level professional degree in information management or an equivalent combination of education and experience in information management, library science or publishing
- Experience with bibliographic data management
- Possess good troubleshooting skills
- Experience with library concepts and web applications
- Programming using scripting languages a great benefit
- Minimum Competencies (knowledge, skills, and attitudes): A heart to encourage and serve people with less knowledge or fewer skills
- Desire to work as a member of a highly diverse and globally distributed team
- Good organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills (customer service orientation)
- Troubleshooting skills and analytical thinking (i.e., a data detective)
- Strong attention to detail
- Familiarity with library software, metadata schemas, and common digital file formats
- Trustworthiness (mindset to protect confidentiality of data)
- An openness to learn software and acquire new technical skills
Optional Technical Competencies
Training can be provided
- Experience with DSpace institutional repositories
- Experience with SQL, XML, XSLT, or other basic tools to query, transform, and otherwise manipulate structured data
- A basic working knowledge of Unix/Linux systems and services
- A basic understanding of large system storage, exchange, and transmission technologies
- A basic understanding of data security management
