Impact Report 2020

1 JANUARY 2019 – 30 SEPTEMBER 2020

JESUS said, ‘I am the vine, and you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will bear much fruit; for you can do nothing without me’. JOHN 15:5 (GNT)

As I contemplate the impact of Wycliffe Australia in this last biennium, I can’t help but be challenged by these words of God from Isaiah 55:8 (NIV):

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways.” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts…”

It helps me to understand that the ‘impact’ is not necessarily our responsibility. We want to see people from every language group living as disciples of Jesus Christ through the power of God’s Word in a language that speaks to their heart. Yet that power of God’s Word is not something that we somehow own or control or cleverly manipulate. It is God’s Word and he decides its impact. His ways are higher than our ways.

On the other hand, we are called by Jesus himself to take his gospel message to the ends of the earth and make disciples among all the nations. By bringing the good news of Jesus to those people that don’t yet have it in a language they fully understand, we simply become a gardener who waters the earth and waits to see it bud and flourish and yield seed for the sower and bread for the eater’ Isaiah 55:10 (NIV).

So even if the impact does not belong to us, the mandate remains for Wycliffe Australia to take those precious words from the mouth of God, the Bible, to every language in the world.

His Word will not return empty. His Word will accomplish everything he desires. His word will achieve the purposes for which he sent it. His Word will have an impact!
